FILLED OF THINGS THAT WERE DONE IN FIRST 100 DAYS IN DENMARK (DAY 74)

DAY 74 – July 31, 2009

I end my July with a bang!

My first time to go outside Denmark, I visited Malmo, Sweden and had a one-day tour. This serves as a guide and a warning for those who want to go the Malmo from Copenhagen.
We (Jess, Apple and I) decided to go to Malmo so early, 7am. Our reason, we don’t know where can we get a train from Hellerup and we don’t know the place. We boarded in the train going to Malmo at 8:05 am. We pay 80kr for our fare. NOTE: It is cheaper to travel with a partner. You can have discount if you choose “Family”. Normally, each you will pay 89kr but we only pay 80kr since Jess and I chose the “Family” and Apple chose the “Single”.

We passed through the Oresund Bridge. It is the longest combined road and rail bridge in Europe and connects the two metropolitan areas of the Öresund Region: the Danish capital of Copenhagen and the Swedish city of Malmö. We reached Malmo at 8:53 am. Very timely, all the establishments are open now. We had a good start…

We go directly to the Tourist Information Center located inside the Central Station of Malmo. We checked if they have the city card. And they went to the forex exchage. I found a new traveling buddy now. It is City Card. It is the official tourist card that entitles you to free travels and lots of discounts. Let the card inspire you to enjoyable days in Malmö. It gives you privileges around the city, free buses, free parking and discount on bicycles. Also, you can get free entrances on selected museums and discounts on the major attractions. It costs 130 SEK or 88DKK and we save a lot, almost 50%!

Now, we can start our tour now. We jumped on Bus number 3 and decided to go to Malmo Museum but we didn’t know where to we stop. So, what happened was we toured around the line 3 bus like a sight-seeing bus. After a while, I figured it out and learned how to use the guidelines. So finally after 30 mins inside the bus we saw our destination.
Thank you Bus No.7&3

1. Malmo Museum – It has extensive collections of transportation, from the past up to the present. It includes also the history of transportation. What amazed me was you can actually see the inside of an airplane and they have a ship that you can actually go inside and see the engine.

2. The Cog Museum – It showcase the two medieval ships – cog- during the Middle Ages. This is just a replica of the original but real ship is hundred years. They build this replica last 1999 and they finish it after 3 years. They have a port-like, it is like a village during that time. It is complete with chapel, stores and the execution for the criminals. The tour guide is really friendly. He gave us information around the place and also tried some stuff in it.

3. Toy land Museum --- It is more than museum – it is paradise for all toy lover and experience no matter age. 10, 000 toys, actions, lights and effects on 500 m. There’s a collection of toys of Disney, Star Wars, Barbie, Smurf, Tintin, James Bond, and Mc Donald’s toys.

The World's Smallest Wooden Puzzle -- 99pcs.

Shell Station

4. Shopping – Malmo is known for the shopping malls. They said it is cheaper to shop there. But I didn’t find it that way. Well, they have big malls compare to Copenhagen but the price is the same or even higher. I am really happy cos I bought jogging pants in Children’s wear. Also, I bought Souvenir t-shirt in the children’s wear. It cheaper and it fits me well.

We felt that our feet were dead tired thought we didn’t walk that much. But of course, sometime we didn’t know where we were and the worst of it were lost. But It was a thrilled one. Lost in the place you don’t know and you don’t know anyone there plus there’s a language barrier. That was very cool!

I think we're lost...

We decided to go home. Until the last minute we are not yet decided if we go on train or bus until the Swebus is closed.

NOTE:
It is only 6pm on weekdays and 2pm on weekends. Then, the ticket office is also close. We don’t have a choice but to buy ticket through the machine, fortunately, it has English translation.

NOTE:
There are some girls who ask if they can help you in return they will give you money or they will ask if they have some money cos there money is not enough. Beware! You can do it all by yourself cos there an English translation in the machine.

And up to the last minute we don’t know what train line to ride on. Until, we read it thoroughly and found out that we are standing on the wrong line and minutes after the train will leave. Whew!
NOTE:
Read thoroughly, even you can’t understand it. Read it with common-sense!
