FILLED OF THINGS THAT WERE DONE IN FIRST 100 DAYS IN DENMARK (DAY 43)

DAY 43 – June 31, 2009

Today ends of the first half and tomorrow would be the start of the second half. With this, I bid goodbye to the first half. This is one of the memorable years of my life. Many things happened, good and bad, but I say I cherished every moment of it. Now, on the second half, I want to have a plan and I want to surpass the excitement and adventure that I had for the past months.

SECOND-HALF WISH LIST

  1. To visit Paris, esp. the Eiffel tower. Of course, this is my dream. If I have a chance to visit this early, this year will be the most memorable year in my life.

  1. To see another country. Two hits in one bullet. (why not??), maybe in Belgium or Netherlands.

  1. Start and Finish Danish language. I’ll start at August 10 and end at November. After that I don’t know if I need to proceed to Module II or can I start a certificate now. It depends on the results of my language proficiency.

  1. Have a white Christmas. Definitely, I will have but I don’t know yet if I’ll celebrate here in Denmark or with some friends.

  1. Have a blast and blessed New Year. I wonder how they celebrate New Year here. This is one of my favorite seasons and I want to know if I’ll enjoy the celebration here.

  1. Meet new friends. I mean, foreign friends. This is to understand better the culture not only Danish culture but other culture. I hope and I pray that I can meet new friends to expand my contacts here.

  1. To find a church. I am dying to attend a service here. Almost one month since my last service and as servant who is working for almost half her life. It is really difficult for me to just let go of Sundays with fellowship. I am really bless right now cos I receive a message that they will have Bible Study near in the place tomorrow and I am invited. God answered my prayers.

This is just few things that I want to accomplish for the remaining months of the year. It may vary. Some activities may happen that’s not in my list or some activities may not happen in my list.

MORAL LESSON: 12 So I concluded there is nothing better than to be happy and enjoy ourselves as long as we can. 13 And people should eat and drink and enjoy the fruits of their labor, for these are gifts from God. (Ecclesiastes 3: 12-13)

FILLED OF THINGS THAT WERE DONE IN FIRST 100 DAYS IN DENMARK (DAY 42)

DAY 42 – June 30, 2009

After a relaxing and good weekend vacation, I felt rejuvenated. My body was so active and wants to do things. I cleaned the house, iron few clothes, wash some of my clothes, and I even cooked for my dinner but I had dinner alone they went to the beach (again!) ayoko na..sobra na ako..pano ako puputi nito..lagi n lng akong nasa beach..hehehe…

Afterwards, they went home and ate at Thai restaurant and handed me some foods from the resto. So, I called Jess to eat and drink with apple cider.

FILLED OF THINGS THAT WERE DONE IN FIRST 100 DAYS IN DENMARK (DAY 41)

DAY 41 – June 28, 2009

It is Ida’s birthday!

We woke up early. Actually, we were ambush cos Mette woke us up and needed our help to prepare for Ida’s party. It was a fun party. Relative with Mette and Lars were there and Ida was so happy and got so many gifts. Afterwards, we went to the beach again. I tried to sleep and have some rest. Indeed, I had a good rest. And went home at 7pm.

Ida's birthday party!

MORAL LESSON: There’s so much life to offer.

FILLED OF THINGS THAT WERE DONE IN FIRST 100 DAYS IN DENMARK (DAY 40)

DAY 40 – June 27, 2009

It’s my second day here in summer house!

Jess and I woke up late. We had some breakfast and took shower and then off to go for walk to see the entire town. As we were walking, I passed by in the house that got my attention me. When I arrived here I am trying to find my dream house, I mean my kind of house that I wanted to copy when I go back to the Philippines. I didn’t like the houses in Charlottenlund because there are big and old. It is hard to make one in the Philippines but this one. It is perfect! It is small but cute one, colored-pink house with blue paint in the windows and have a nice rooftop. Almost perfect I think. Then, we saw the restaurant the where we ate last night, a loppe market but not that good. While we were trying to find some stuff in loppe market, we saw a parade. With different nation and they were shouting. I don’t know what it is but it was cool. Finally, we went to the supermarket and bought some food and off to the beach. I walked until we got tired and then stayed for couple of hours and then took some pictures. Until we decided to get a blanket put our swimming clothes and get some sun-bathing. It was a relaxing one. I appreciate the beach and try to lie in the sun. Also, I enjoyed seeing family took a day off and have a bonding moment with their kids. I think that’s the most important thing as a parent and as a child that will be the most memorable day in their life. After one hour we decided to go home.

My Dream house

At home, we played with the kids and I learned some Danish language (I hope I will not forget it when I get home..hehehehe…) while Mette and Lars are preparing for our dinner. They are so nice and I feel comfortable with them. I was never intimidated with them, considering that I am a foreigner. I don’t know but there’s something in their family that I really enjoy. The food was great. Barbecue fish, potato and sausage with sauce and kababa sauce (am I right?) and have some talk regarding everything. After a while, Jess wanted to watch a movie outside. So, we watched until 10pm and it is freezing cold outside but its ok, the movie is good.

I was thinking while I was helping Jess in the kitchen. I know now what I wanted to do when I have my own family and house. I think this is a glimpse what will be a life as a wife and mother. And the feeling of running a family and household. Little by little a get a chance to see the “real” lesson the He wanted to teach me in this area. And I want to thank God for that. All glory and praise to You! I really love this Man.

FILLED OF THINGS THAT WERE DONE IN FIRST 100 DAYS IN DENMARK (DAY 39)

DAY 39 – June 27, 2009

It’s my vacation!

I had a long walked with Tina. We got flowers to make some lemonade. It took us 2hours for the flowers. Honestly, my feet are dead tired. But it was a fun walking. I had a close encounter with horses though I am really scared with them. Well, I am scared of animals. I don’t know why. I want to watch them but I don’t want them to get near to me. It’s freaking me out. Also, we went to a huge forest where I saw deer and a rabbit. Wild animals are there and every October, the said, it is there mating season so there’s a lot of them in the forest. While walking going to the house, we got good news. Mette, Lars and Jessica invited me to go with them to their summer house. I was shy to Tina and I really don’t know if she will allow me. But, thank God she allows me to go. It was a rushed pack I don’t know if I got the right clothes or thing. I just put it in my bag.

It will be a 3 days and 2 nights vacation. And on Sunday it is Ida’s birthday, daughter of Mette and Lars. We had 45mins. travel from Charlottenlund. The place is in south part of Demark. We got here at 4pm and Mette brought us to the beach first, around the place and then to the house. It is a very nice summer house and it a cool place. The beach is great. I think this is the coolest place that I ever been here in Denmark. I really like the whole place. Near in the restaurants, in the supermarket, forest, beach and ice cream shop. It is a small town but everything is here. You will not get bored, just go out and look around.

We walked around the place and had ice cream. This is my 2nd day to have ice cream. I had chocolate and cappuccino and then off to go to the beach. Then went home to prepare for the dinner. We went to a Thai restaurant; it is called Sloskin, just a few blocks. And they have a nice food there; of course it is rice…

We went again to the beach and watched sunset. I was stunned in the sunset. Everywhere I go, I will definitely find sunset and sunrise. And we took some pictures, of course.

FILLED OF THINGS THAT WERE DONE IN FIRST 100 DAYS IN DENMARK (DAY 38)

DAY 38 – June 26, 2009

This is really one of my fruitful days here.

  1. I finished cleaning my room, as in cleaning with vacuum and washing floors. But, my toilet broke up and I can’t use it. I don’t know how to survive like this. They haven’t fixed it yet.
  2. I received a blessing 2 shoes and a sandal and few clothes that weren’t used! And it fits me. Thanks.
  3. I opened an account in the bank. I need that to send money in the Philippines. Thank God cos the fee in sending money is cheaper compare to other bank. It means I can save more money.
  4. We had some groceries. Bread, sausages, chicken and some foods that I need for next week.
  5. We bought a credit for my phone for next week.
  6. We bought a klip-kort, it is ticket for the train, for next week. I am going to Copenhagen.
  7. I tasted Danish is (ice cream), coffee and strawberry. I love ice cream but I don’t find it good.
  8. We had some shopping for the children for next week vacation in France.

MORAL LESSON: Everyday is another day.

FILLED OF THINGS THAT WERE DONE IN FIRST 100 DAYS IN DENMARK (DAY 37)

DAY 37 – June 24, 2009

My world is sleeping and the other world is getting ready for the new day.

I am silently crying but deep inside I am screaming.

For justice and fairness. For pure happiness and joy. For new life and new hope.

I am letting go another thing which is really mean to me.

And sometimes things need to be done to have a better life.

FILLED OF THINGS THAT WERE DONE IN FIRST 100 DAYS IN DENMARK (DAY 36)

DAY 36 – June 23, 2009

It’s midsummer here in Europe! And this is a different culture for me so I make sure that I will observe this kind of celebration. But let’s look what midsummer really is according to Wikipedia.

Midsummer may simply refer to the period of time centered upon the summer solstice, but more often refers to specific European celebrations that accompany the actual solstice, or that take place around the 24th of June and the preceding evening. The exact dates vary between cultures.

In Denmark, the solstitial celebration is called Sankt Hans aften ("St. John's Eve"). It was an official holiday until 1770, and in accordance with the Danish tradition of celebrating a holiday on the evening before the actual day, it takes place on the evening of 23 June. It is the day where the medieval wise men and women (the doctors of that time) would gather special herbs that they needed for the rest of the year to cure people.

It has been celebrated since the times of the Vikings by visiting healing water wells and making a large bonfire to ward away evil spirits. Today the water well tradition is gone. Bonfires on the beach, speeches, picnics and songs are traditional, although bonfires are built in many other places where beaches may not be close by (i.e. on the shores of lakes and other waterways, parks, etc.) In the 1920s a tradition of putting a witch made of straw and cloth (probably made by the elder women of the family) on the bonfire emerged as a remembrance of the church's witch burnings from 1540 to 1693. This burning sends the "witch" away to Bloksbjerg, the mountain 'Brocken' in the Harz region of Germany where the great witch gathering was thought to be held on this day.

Holger Drachmann and P. E. Lange-Müller wrote a midsommervise (Midsummer hymn) in 1885 called "Vi elsker vort land..." ("We Love Our Country") that is sung at every bonfire on this evening.

5pm, we begun to prepare our things to beach. Jess cooked spring roll and rice. We have apple and apple cider. We are really hungry but we need to wait till we get there. We walked down to beach and had some fun while walking. When we get there, we decided to feed ourselves and taste what Jess made.

Spring roll

Picnic by the beach

The celebration begun at 10pm. There’s a lot of people there esp the kids. They were really excited to see a huge bonfire. Now the bonfire begins! It’s a big fire! We also have this in the Philippines. My friends and family always do this in the beach but this, this a different because it is tradition. We tried to get pictures and video while some people singing a song. I had a good time. I am part of the midsummer of Denmark today. I feel like I am belong now.

DAY 35 – June 22, 2009

It’s Emilia’s birthday celebration and Tina prepared foods. I saw a children’s in Danish way. It’s is quite different in the Phils cos kids here love bread and cookies. In the Phils, they love spaghetti and chicken. They came at around 10am and they played until 12nn. And the party begun, they sung songs which I don’t understand but I think it is tradition. They didn’t sing “happy birthday to you song”, I don’t know why. And this is my first time to slice a pineapple, believe me its fun! But not easy….

FILLED OF THINGS THAT WERE DONE IN FIRST 100 DAYS IN DENMARK (DAY 34)

DAY 34 – June 21, 2009

Happy Father’s day!

I talked to my family and I really miss them. But I need to enjoy here so that I will not feel any loneliness and sadness. So we went to Loppe Mart. I bought a big stuff toy for 5kr and a gift for Emilia for 20kr and that’s cool! But what’s really great this day, I bought a pink Nike jacket for 50kr and I LOVE IT!!!!

Nike jacket

We went home for a while and then we went to the park to watch an Opera Concert. But when we went there, there’s a summer workshop for kids. They put a tent and had a fire to cook bread on it. Amazing! Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to taste it. They had food workshop, gymnast workshop and football workshop. There’s also a show for kids. After a while the Opera Concert starts. Though, we didn’t understand it, we just enjoy the crowd.

FILLED OF THINGS THAT WERE DONE IN FIRST 100 DAYS IN DENMARK (DAY 33)

DAY 33 – June 20, 2009

Officially, I am 1 month here. May 18, 2009, when I had my flight out of the Philippines and May 19, 2009, when I arrived here. During my stay, I found some interesting things that I wish Philippines had. Sounds crazy but I think there’s no harm if we do the same.

THINGS I WISH WE HAD IN THE PHILIPPINES

11. Mind your own trash – They don’t have janitors in some place or someone will pick you trash. Inside the food chain even in the park. You should throw your own trash in the trash can.

10. Grocery Bags – We had few collections of plastic bags from supermarket and it can be use again. Plastic bags in the supermarket are also for sale. You have to buy it also. So, to save some money, they will use it again. This is a good way of recycling. And in the supermarkets, there’s no bagger. You have put your groceries in your bags. I think that’s cool. In the Philippines, you can have plastic bags as long as you want and throw it afterwards. I think SM and Robinsons are promoting to buy a bag that can be use again. And that’s a good way of informing people about environment. Cool and classy bag. I hope Filipinos support this campaign

9. Recycle..Recycle..Recycle.. --- Speaking of recycling. Cans are recyclable. If there’s a “Pan” sign in the can. You can exchange it with money. So, sometimes we collect can and exchange it and walah! We have money for Loppe Market. Good way to save money and to save environment.

8. Home appliances --- Call it stupid but I like the appliances here. If I can send some in the Philippines and It is so cheap. For example, TV with DVD on its side. Washing Machine with dryer and Dish washing machine with dryer.

7. Bike lanes --- Bike is common here. It’s another means of transportation here and they have bike lane. They have also priority on bikes. There’s a parking lot for bike and you can find it all over the place. Even in the main road they have bike lane and it is safe to take a bike around the city. I know they are now implementing bikes and bike lane in the Philippines but what I am afraid of is how safe taking bike around the city. With the kind of drivers we have I doubt it.

6. Greener place --- Though this is one of the progressive countries in Europe, still they have parks and forest near residential areas. And their gardens are full of greens. They love plants and flowers. Everyday they want to go to the park or forest to take a fresh air.

5. Fresh milk – You can’t believe this. Bottled water is more expensive than Milk. And they drink milk as if it is water. So I can have milk as much I want. It is quite different from Pinas. They have different kind of milk. However, there’s no evaporated or condensed milk.

4. Cheap and fast broadband --- Monthly broadband subscription costs are very low and represent a small share of household expenses. And I can say that it is fast. I can communicate to my family and friends every time I want. I have connection 24/7.

3. More time for family bonding --- Normally, both parents are working. They are out in the house for 8 hours however, they make sure that they have time for their children after works or they will go to park, beach or even out of the country if there is a holiday. I think it is good that they spend quality time with their kids.

2. Free health insurance – The moment that I applied and I receive my CPR number, I received a letter from the city health service reminding me to go for a pap smear, a screening procedure for early detection of cervical cancer and other gynecological diseases. And it is free for the residence. I know we have in the Pinas but how effective it is. You have to undergo several processes just to get a free check up.

1. Clean water from faucet. --- A friend said to me, that the water in the faucet is cleaner that the bottled water. You can actually drink the water straight from the faucet and I found it amazing. That’s how clean this country. I have this thinking from the Pinas that don’t ever get water in the faucet. Even for cooking because it is so dirty.

MORAL LESSON: Get the meat and throw the bones.

Friday! And I really I got bored. So, I asked Jess if we can get out and have a walk. She agreed and we had a walk to Ikea with Apple. I had a dinner at Jess’ place and drink again Apple Cider. It is an alcoholic drink..yes, I tried to try one and it taste good..;)

Half-way going to Ikea, it rained but we decided to continue our walked. When we got there, Apple went for a shopping then we had a dinner inside Ikea.

We decided to go home and half-way going home, it rained again with hailstones. Well, I had an exciting day!

FILLED OF THINGS THAT WERE DONE IN FIRST 100 DAYS IN DENMARK (DAY 31)

DAY 31 – June 18, 2009

This day is my monthsary (ano daw??). I am here in Denmark for 1 month. During my stay here, I already miss my Pinas. There’s a lot of thing that I miss but here’s my top list.

Pero hayaan muna..lilipas din yan..hahaha...Let’s get it on!

  1. Kanin!!! When I was in the Pinas. I ate rice once a day only.

  1. Pagkain sa jolijeep --- I worked in Makati and I ate in jolijeep. Maliit lang cyan a lugar at para cyang jeep na mas ok na take-out kasi nakatayo ka pagkumain. Mula breakfast, lunch, merienda at dinner meron dun. Namimiss ko un sinangag, longganisa, bicol express, lechon kawali, sisig, kare-kare at sinigang. At ang luto ng nanay ko. Hay..nagugutom na ko!!!

  1. Bahay namin --- particularly ung room. Mind your own business.

  1. SM --- long mall hours. Open from Monday to Sunday. Naku, dito Monday to Saturday at hanggang 5pm lng. Aws..:( Pano na un mall after ng work.

  1. Summer! – Actually, summer dito..Summer @ 10 degrees celcius with rains and sometimes with hail stone. What happened to beach? Sun bathing? Tan lines? Banana boat etc…

  1. Itlog ng pogi at BJ (kwek-kwek at Buko juice) --- walang street foods. Kahit na may allergy ako. Go! Me gamot naman. Hindi tulad sa HongKong at Pinas. Kahit saan ka pumunta may makikita kang street food.

  1. Christ Cares City Church Family – Every Sunday fellowship at mga gala after ng service. Every occasion nagsasama-sama kami. You’re still my family. My home-grown church.

You’re dead!

MORAL LESSON: There’s no place like home.

FILLED OF THINGS THAT WERE DONE IN FIRST 100 DAYS IN DENMARK (DAY 30)

DAY 30 – June 17, 2009

I thought I would my life would never be exciting until school year starts, but I am wrong. I got my yellow card. I don’t know, but it gives me a feeling that I am really belong in this country. It is my access to all, even to the other country. I am still wanted to find out how to spend most of the days before the school starts. Any suggestion, dear?

And I found out some news. I was compared to other people. Well, nothing to be compared of. This not the job I want to excel, I know where I stand and I know what can I do. I am not hurt or something. Personal opinion: It’s unfair. They must not compare people. We’re different. But life’s like that. You have to take it or leave it. In this matter, I’ll take it. But as I said, nothing to be compared of. I am here for nothing. I want to enjoy, gain knowledge and experience. Now, the doors is open, I’ll let the sunshine in..;)

MORAL LESSON: Mind your own business.

FILLED OF THINGS THAT WERE DONE IN FIRST 100 DAYS IN DENMARK (DAY 29)

DAY 29 – June 16, 2009

The film “Breaking and Entering” starring Jude Law, struck me. We often don’t realized that we break in into someone’s life then enter and get out immediately if we don’t want it or stays longer if we feel love and comfort. Actually, breaking in is a crime. And I agree! It doesn’t matter if it is a property or in personal life. It means you are neither invited nor welcome.

Day 25 -- June 12, 2009

Ibang tanawin at ibang salita.

Feels GREAT to be Pinoy

I've always been vocal about being "proudly Pinoy". I shared here in my blog a few months ago Why I Wanna Stay Home and I still do because I know I have a mission to accomplish here.

Anyway, Marc tagged me for the meme, "What are the 3 signs you see happening now that make you say, “it feels great to be Pinoy” then tag ten (10) of your blogger friends." Here are my 3 reasons:

1. Pinky David, Licensing Director of Discovery Channel in her keynote address for the 38th Marketing Conference this morning quoted Tony Meloto's speech for a Gawad Kalinga event, "Filipinos, you were created for excellence...". That gave me the shivers and I remember my Kuya sharing to me that GK will indeed manage to build 700K+ homes within 7 years and it will drastically lessen the poverty rate in the Philippines. And, guess what, GK is already reaching out to other countries and working with the UN to eradicate poverty as well in other countries. The secret to the success of the program? Pinoys.

2. Filipinos give care and help in healing people. Did you know that 40% of nurses in New York hospitals are supposedly Pinoys? (I got that statistic from a friend.) Who'd give the TLC that patients and children need if there weren't Pinoys?

3. Filipinos are very talented and creative people. Guess who sings at bars all over Asia? Guess what Pizza Hut ad actually contributed to the boom of the 1-800 numbers (now sing it - nine-one-one-one-one-one-one!? Guess who are the best animators in the world (remember that bahay kubo in Nemo's aquarium? And who does the best non-American "American accent" in the whole wide BPO industry? PINOYS!

God loves us. He created us to be excellent, talented, big-hearted, humorous-even-at-adversity people and there are actually foreigners applying for Filipino citizenship! Imagine that.

And I am just simply so PROUD to be FILIPINO!

DAY 22 – June 9, 2009

It was a tiring day. My feet are killing me. I walked for 3 hours! But what was really excite me was when I received my CPR number and we went to the language school and had an interview on what level should I fit in. FYI, my CPR number is 150583-3232. Anyway, the school starts on August 10 (ang tagal!). I skipped level 1 so I’m in level 2 now..*yabang* I took the evening classes to do some stuff in the morning. And I am really excited! And I have to make good. I want to excel!

During my walk with Sebastian, I came into a realization that I need to do things on my own. It means without the extra help from others. I shouldn’t expect help from others. This is my life and I will bare the consequence of my own decision. If I want to go to the other place I should do it on my own. I shouldn’t wait for others to decide for myself.

MORAL LESSON: Be independent!

FILLED OF THINGS THAT WERE DONE IN FIRST 100 DAYS IN DENMARK (DAY 20)

DAY 20 – June 7, 2009

It’s Sunday! I was praying that I can attend Sunday service. It’s very difficult for me not to have a fellowship. Though, they said that what important is the relationship. It is true! And I agree to that. But life is so different now, for 8 years I worked in the church and Sunday is the best day for me. But now, Sunday is like an ordinary day to me and every Sunday, I always pray that I can find a place for my soul.

Well, this is another new experience for me. We (jess, apple and me) went to Copenhagen and we rode the train.

Hellerup to Kobenhavn to Norreport to Kobenhavn and last to Charlottenlund

Hellerup Station

at the train

They will attend the Catholic mass and me, well, I’ll try to find what I can do in the city.

I tried to listen to the sermon and I found it interesting. It mentioned my two favorite bible verse and finally I heard what He wanted to say to me.

"But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.

Matthew 6:33

“And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."

Matthew 19:20

After that, we walked along the streets and took some pictures..but of course! Right Apple??

MORAL LESSON: You will hear His voice in the least expected place.
